ICN has a choir from Uganda (Africa), with the dream of starting more
on other continents. Matsiko, which means "hope" in the language of Luganda (spoken in Uganda).
Matsiko is beginning the process
of setting up a tour location near you. Very soon, we will be providing a schedule of the events
and locations. If you would like to schedule the choir for your group, simply contact ICN and let us know that you are interested.
You can check up on the progress the choir in Uganda is making by
visiting the choir press release page. The choir's first album, "Matsiko: an African Hope," will be available for purchase in September 2006.
The Matsiko choir will earn money for the
orphans and at-risk children currently, or not yet, supported by ICN
in Uganda and around the world. Matsiko will be instrumental in raising awareness regarding the plight of children around the world. The choir will be instrumental in raising the necessary funds in order to combat the many troublesome conditions children face everyday. Your support of the choir, through contributions, CD purchases, and having them perform for your community event, church, school, or business will bring lasting change to the lives of our world's children!!!
Why another choir?
International Children's Network choir is not just "another" choir of orphans from Africa. The Matsiko choir, which gets its name from the Ugandan word for ?hope,? provides the highest quality of dancing, drama, testimonies and show stopping drum performances, complementing one of the finest assembly of voices in all the world?and all this done by children who have come out of the most desperate of situations!!! Matsiko delivers a show that will be remembered for a lifetime. In addition, the educational benefit of gaining awareness of the daily struggle of orphaned and at- risk children will provoke any audience to action, supporting underprivileged children with educational opportunities up through the university level.
Matsiko's Daily Life
Currently, the children all live in host homes or with relatives
and are sponsored for school. On top of about eight hours of school each day and many more of homework, children in Africa have many chores to accomplish throughout the day. Some of these include fetching water, washing clothes, preparing meals, and caring for younger siblings.
ICN is looking at the possibility of building a home in Kampala for the choir. The Matsiko home would be able to accommodate each child in the choir, including children who participated in past choirs, and staff members. Children will also be able to go to school in the home as it will be set up much like a charter school would be in the United States, focusing on music education while holding to the rigor of the Ugandan education system.
Choir Tour
The ICN choir of Africa, Matsiko, is training for their first
tour of the United States. Tentatively, they are set to come
in January 2008! For those who have traveled to Uganda with
ICN, the choir tour is a greatly anticipated event. From
awe-inspiring drumming sequences and traditional dances to songs and
dramas, the lives of these kids, as they share their stories, is
sure to touch anyone who sees Matsiko perform.
We would love to give you the opportunity to come and watch a
concert or to invite Matsiko to your church, business, school, or
community event. So stay tuned for tour and booking
information.
