The Choir Directors
James Kaggwa
James Kaggwa has worked with children's choirs for many years and is a master at teaching children how to sing tight harmonies as he develops both their singing ability and character. He and his wife Lillian recently gave birth to their first son named Tendo, which means "Praise."
Working with children's choirs from Africa is something close to James' heart, not only because he is passionate about seeing these children pursue their dreams of a university education, but because he himself was a part of one as a child. As a young boy James traveled to Canada and sang with the African Children's Choir during one of their tours.
Because of the sponsorship and support he received as a child and young man, James was able to pursue his studies and earned a degree. Aside from working with the choir he also works full-time as a school teacher. |
Samuel Kiberu Straxy
Straxy has been involved since it was nothing more than an idea in a run down hotel room in Uganda. Sam's passion for music and seeing children supported all the way through the university are things very close to his heart. Himself an orphan, he started playing music at a very young age, mastering the keyboard and other instruments before the age of ten. As a young man, Straxy auditioned for Coca-Cola Pop Stars, East Africa's version of American Idol, and made it to the final twelve!
Shortly after the competition was over, Straxy got word that someone from the United States wanted to sponsor him through his university studies! He is now in his final year at Kampala's Makerere University studying Information Technology. Sam wrote most of the music on the choir's album and even tests his hand at the choreography. |
